Irrigation & Water Management


The aim of the laboratory is maintaining proper soil-water conditions for crop production of farmland, namely both rice paddy and non-rice paddy.
Especially for rice paddy, development of proper operation technologies and enhancement of eco-system services of water have been studying. While for non-rice paddy, clarification of soil-water dynamics of SPAC (Soil, Plant and Atmosphere Continuity), clarification of solute movement in soil, and qualification & quantification of evapo-transpiration have been studying.
In addition, development of proper technologies on biomass use has been studying to increase productivity in rural regions.

  1. Proper water management in rice paddy area (Irrigation systems, Drainage systems, Water users group)
  2. Proper operation of Irrigation systems (Water saving, Water quality management)
  3. Irrigation scheduling (Farm pond capacity, Irrigation method)
  4. Unsaturated moisture flow in soil (Matric potential, Soil moisture movement)
  5. Transport of moisture in soil-plant systems (Plant responses to soil moisture, Effective soil layer, Available soil moisture)
  6. Crop water requirement (Evapotranspiration, Potential evapotranspiration)
  7. Development of technologies of proper biomass use
