Water Environment Engineering

The Water Environment Engineering laboratory aims at water environment conservation in the aquatic systems from a multi-scale viewpoint covering reach to basin scales, leading to conservation of healthy water environment with rich aquatic ecosystems. Our target sites include mountainous headwaters, flat low-lying areas, and coastal shallow waters in order to cover productive agricultural areas in Japan as well as overseas. Our work consists of field monitoring and laboratory experiments, data analysis, and mathematical modelling for simulating the observed phenomena, based on which scenario analyses are performed for a better understanding of target systems and sustainable conservation strategies. Specifically, we apply process-based models as well as advanced computational intelligence and machine learning in order to achieve high accuracy for a given problem.
