Past Graduates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Center for Tropical Agriculture Research at Kyushu University has been in charge of graduate education since 1996, accepting graduate students from the Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences (now the Graduate School of Bioresource and Environmental Studies) and the Graduate School of Comparative Studies in Society and Culture (now the Graduate School of Global Social Integration).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By September 2018, the program had produced 42 master’s degree graduates (18 from Japan, 9 from China, 4 from Myanmar, 3 from Laos, 2 from Bangladesh, 1 from Korea, 1 from Indonesia, 1 from the Philippines, 1 from Kenya, 2 from Vietnam) and 20 doctoral degree graduates (doctoral degree recipients) (4 from Japan, 3 from Korea, 3 from Bangladesh, 2 from China, 3 from Vietnam, D. degree recipients (Japan: 4, Korea: 3, Bangladesh: 3, China: 2, Vietnam: 3, Laos: 1, Philippines: 1, Myanmar: 2, Thailand: 1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on the network of these world-class alumni, we are developing research activities related to tropical agriculture and environmental studies.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

I studied both Master course from 2011 to 2013 and Doctoral course from 2016 to 2020 in the Institute of Tropical Agriculture (NEKKEN), Kyushu University. My master thesis research title was \u201cPathotypic and genetic characterization of Pyricularia grisea <\/em>in Myanmar\u201d, and doctoral thesis research title was \u201cCharacterization of soybean stem diseases in Myanmar and their biological control using beneficial fungus, Trichoderma<\/em> virens\u201d. <\/em>My field of study was plant pathology and microbiology. However, diverse fields of study can be learnt in the Laboratory of NEKKEN center. I obtained new idea and knowledge from the other members in NEKKEN seminars. Due to the interdisciplinary approach to research is crucial for addressing complex problems, NEKKEN center is an excellent academic and research environment. I was very happy and beneficial during my study in the Laboratory. I am proud to say that I graduated from the NEKKEN center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the completion of my Ph.D degree course, I am working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology, Yezin Agricultural University, Myanmar. Ongoing research is \u201cEffects of different Trichoderma<\/em> spp. on the root and stem diseases infestations and yield of soybean (Glycine<\/em> max<\/em> L.) and black gram (Vigna mungo<\/em> L.)\u201d. Now, I am supervising two Master students and co-supervising one Ph.D student. Their research areas are related to plant disease diagnosis, biological plant disease control and integrated disease management. Their thesis research titles are \u201cEffect of indigenous Trichoderma<\/em> strains on stem rot of groundnut caused by Sclerotium<\/em> rolfsii<\/em>\u201d, \u201cIntegrated disease management on the root and stem rot of tomato caused by Sclerotium rolfsii<\/em>\u201d and \u201cCharacterization of Fusarium<\/em> oxysporum<\/em> f. sp. cubense<\/em> causing fusarium wilt of banana and its integrated management\u201d, respectively.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The journey of studying 2-years master at the Institute of Tropical Agriculture (Nekken) offered me the great opportunity to learn the interdisciplinary studies in the multicultural environment. Sharing the research findings and knowledge at the seminar of Nekken and participating in the Nekken\u2019s each and every event made me unforgettable in the memory of my lifetime. Exchanging the different social cultural experiences and traditions among the international students made the days of my student life meaningful. I am grateful of being a student of Nekken and a member of Nekken Alumni always.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the completion of master degree course, I have been working as a Staff Officer of the Training and Research Development Division (TRDD), Forest Department which mainly carry out the human resource development programs, international cooperation and communication. After coming back to my home institution in 2019, I participated and shared the research outputs of master thesis at the research conference of Forest Research Institute. Based on my academic and work experiences, I had been dispatched to the 2021 Fellowship Program of Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) in the Republic of Korea. The 6-months course of Fellowship Program had a positive impact on my educational and career life through learning international forestry cooperation and development. Currently, being a member of Community Forestry (CF) Task Force Unit of Forest Department Head Office, I am intimately involving in the discussions, meetings and workshops to access and monitor the implementation of CF activities at the national level. Moreover, I take part as a trainer of agroforestry and home-garden training of the project namely \u201cModel Forest for Livelihood Improvement of Forest Dependent Communities through Development of Community-based Enterprise and Forest Conservation (AFoCO\/015\/2020)\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A prosperous institution with a multicultural environment in academia and research is the Institute of Tropical Agriculture (NEKKEN), Kyudai.I passed my postdoctoral research period in NEKKEN (2017 to 2019), which gave me a fantastic environment and opportunity to build my research capacity and networks and also develop my interpersonal skill in a developed environment. Students from various tropical regions strengthened the institute\u2019s community and adaptability as NEKKEN shed light on the agriculture and natural resource management of tropical nations. I take great pride in thinking of myself as a NEKKEN family member, and am still doing and publishing collaborative research with NEKKEN staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After completing my Postdoctoral research in the  NEKKEN, I joined a position as Professor in the Department of Agroforestry at Bangladesh Agricultural University. I am currently the academic advisor to 7 MS students (one foreign) and Co-supervisor of one PhD student from the Department of Agroforestry, BAU. My recent research is related to forestland rights of ethnic minorities, agroforestry and livelihood improvements of poor people through forest resource management. Besides, I am teaching several undergraduate and graduate courses, organizing international seminars and editorial boards of many reputed international journals. In addition, I serve as the principal investigator for four research projects that are being supported by the German government, the USDA, the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, and the Ministry of Education of Bangladesh. Besides, I serve as a consultant for a foreign NGO in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Institute of Tropical Agriculture (NEKKEN) is a vibrant institute with multicultural environment in academics and research. The deliberate, expert and experienced faculties of this institute specialized in diversified field of research furnished me with a solid academic foundation and skills for my job responsibilities in Bangladesh. I spent the most valuable stages of my life in NEKKEN (around 5 and half years) to conquer the modern and latest research technology. It has provided me a wonderful environment and opportunity to learn and grow myself in each and every sector. It feels great to be taught by amazing teachers who always motivated and encouraged me to face the risks and learn new things. As NEKKEN shed lights the agriculture of tropical countries, therefore, the students from different tropical region enhanced the bonding and versatility of this Institute. I am proud to consider myself as a member of NEKKEN family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After completion of my PhD from Kyushu University, I joined as Associate Professor at BSMRAU and presently serving as Academic supervisor of 5 MS students from the Department of Entomology. I am offering the courses of Insect Genetics and Molecular Biology, Insect Morphology at Graduate level and Insect Taxonomy and Systematics, Economic Entomology at the undergraduate level at BSMRAU. Presently conducting the research on Molecular phylogenetic study of Apis mellifera<\/em> in Bangladesh under the project of Special allocation from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. In addition, several research project regarding Entomological authentication of Honey in Bangladesh funded by RMW (Research Management Wing) is going on mitochondrial DNA based molecular approaches of identifying productive haplotypes of honeybee in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
