The government has been developing high-yielding rice varieties suitable for irrigated land, but the area under cultivation is small, so it is necessary to develop varieties that can be adapted to rainfed and sloping land. This collaboration supports the development of rice genome breeding for high performance varieties by adding high-yielding and pest-resistant traits while taking advantage of the characteristics of indigenous varieties that are adapted to the local farming environment.
