An autonomous boat equipped with an underwater camera was used to capture images of the pond bottom, and the collected data were analyzed using a convolutional neural network (CNN) to automatically classify environmental conditions such as clean gravel, residual feed, white fungal growth, and sludge-like sediment. Furthermore, the classified results were mapped across the entire pond to identify localized areas of organic matter accumulation and environmental degradation. These findings visualized the spatial localization of pollution in aquaculture ponds and demonstrated the potential of this approach for efficient environmental management and prioritization of maintenance areas. For its originality and high practical value in aquaculture applications, this presentation was honored with the Japan Society of Industrial Applied Engineering Award.
