Participation in ICoMST 2026, Daejeon, Korea
Harsha Prakash (Assistant Professor), together with Lan, a doctoral student, and Otani, a master’s student from the Animal Life Science Laboratory, participated in the 72nd International Congress of Meat Science and Technology, ICoMST 2026, held at the Daejeon Convention Center in Daejeon, Korea, from August 9 to 14, 2026.
The conference brought together researchers from many countries working in meat science, muscle biology, food quality, sustainability, cultured meat, and emerging technologies for future meat production. During the conference, the group attended scientific presentations and poster sessions covering a wide range of topics. It was particularly valuable to learn how researchers from different backgrounds are addressing challenges related to cell-based meat production, muscle characteristics, product quality, and sustainable food systems.
Lan gave an oral presentation during the conference, while Harsha and Otani presented their research in poster sessions. On August 13, Harsha presented her research on chicken smooth muscle cells and their potential application in cultured meat research. The poster session provided an important opportunity to introduce the laboratory’s research to an international audience, discuss the significance of smooth muscle cells for cultured meat applications, and receive useful questions and feedback from researchers in related fields. These discussions provided new perspectives and ideas for future experiments and research directions.
The group also met with Professor Jo Cheroun and members of his research team from Seoul National University. During the meeting, both groups introduced their current research activities, exchanged ideas, and discussed areas of mutual interest and possibilities for future research collaboration.
Overall, participation in ICoMST 2026 was a valuable and motivating experience. The conference provided new scientific knowledge, useful feedback on the laboratory’s research, opportunities for international academic exchange, and potential connections for future collaborative research.
