Sex differences of chronic jet lag in mice
Chronic jet lag affects male and female mice in different ways, according to a new study by Kyushu University researchers. Jet-lagged male mice gain weight and have a lower glucose tolerance, while female mice lose weight compared to controls, and their glucose tolerance remains unchanged. In males, the body clock is more resilient to jet lag, showing little change in clock gene activity in the liver and adrenal glands, or in the rhythm of deep body temperature. Female mice are more vulnerable to jet lag, with significant changes in clock genes and their body temperature rhythm.

Chronic jet lag disrupts metabolism differently in male and female mice, study finds
Jet lag is one of the worst parts of long-distance traveling or shift work—it makes us tired and cranky, and also plays havoc with our metabolism (and therefore our weight). Now, new research on mice suggests that the way jet lag impacts our metabolism may depend on our sex.
