Dec. 24-25, 2024 Visited the National Institute of Animal Sciences (NIAS) in Vietnam.

HANOI TRIP 2024 REPORT

On the 24th and 25th, December 2024, Professor Mako Nakamura, Atsushi Otani, and I got the chance to visit the National Institute of Animal Sciences (NIAS) in Hanoi. The main purpose of our visit was to discuss and create a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for academic research collaboration between the Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University and the NIAS with the aim of developing scientific and training cooperation based on equality and promoting the relationship between the two parties. Our visit began with the productive meeting with the researchers and administrative staff at NIAS. During these discussions, we exchanged academic information and publications, explored potential research projects, and planned for joint research.

In addition to the meeting, we had the opportunity to visit the Key Laboratory of Animal Cell Biotechnology and several research centers within NIAS.

We also spent some time to discover Hanoi’s vibrant culinary scene. One of the highlights was trying the local delicacy, boiled embryo chicken (balut). This was a special and enjoyable experience because our lab’s material research involves the gizzard, or smooth muscle cells, of embryo chicken. It was a memorable part of our trip. We also enjoyed dining at various restaurants, experiencing the rich and diverse flavors of Vietnamese cuisine like Pho, Cha ca La Vong, Nem nuong Nha Trang,…

Overall, our visit to the National Institute of Animal Sciences in Hanoi was a significant step towards promoting academic collaboration. The discussions and experiences we had during this trip have established a strong foundation for animal sciences research collaboration in the future.
