The Fifth Workshop on Interdisciplinary Sciences (WIS 2023) Wraps Up with Success

WIS 2023, a two-day event, unfolded on September 14th and 15th, 2023, within the welcoming confines of the Faculty of Agriculture at Kyushu University. This noteworthy gathering served as a Satellite Meeting in conjunction with the esteemed 10th International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM 2023 Tokyo).

Organized collaboratively by the Graduate Program of Mathematics for Innovation, the Center for Promotion of International Education and Research at Kyushu University, and the Vietnam National University of Agriculture, WIS 2023 drew widespread participation and delivered impactful outcomes.

The workshop showcased an illustrious roster of 18 keynote and invited speakers who enriched the sessions with their insights and expertise. Complementing these talks were 18 poster presenters who contributed to the academic richness of the event. The poster session, held on the afternoon of September 15th, provided an interactive platform for students from the Joint Graduate School of Mathematics for Innovation, the Graduate School of Bioresource and Bioenvironmental Sciences, and the School of Agriculture. It enabled them to engage with researchers from diverse universities, both in Japan and abroad.

The workshop attracted 167 enthusiastic participants, comprising 70 attendees present on-site from eight countries, including Japan, Australia, India, the Philippines, Denmark, and Vietnam. Additionally, 97 online participants joined the event from various locations, such as Japan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Australia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

WIS 2023 featured lectures meticulously designed for students and young researchers. The topics spanned a broad spectrum, encompassing statistics, artificial intelligence, agriculture, and applied mathematics, offering valuable insights and knowledge dissemination to all attendees.

The poster session culminated with a recognition of excellence through awards. Mr. Song Tianyu was conferred with the Best Poster Award. The Most Popular Poster Award was jointly bestowed upon Ms. Ta Hoang Trang Thy and Ms. Dao Thu Trang. Furthermore, Dr. Jakia Sultana Jothi earned the Best Interdisciplinary Research Poster distinction.

Exceptional contributions by several poster presenters were also acknowledged with “highly commended” awards. These recipients include Mr. Dam Tuan Anh, Mr. Hosoda Kazuki, Mr. Mithona Chann, and Mr. Brian Blumberg & Mr. Chen Liang-Chi.

The success of WIS 2023 was made possible through the support of the WISE program (MEXT) at Kyushu University and the sponsorship of OHG Company, Mathworks Japan, and VYSAF association.
