“Co-Hosted Seminars”(December 5, 2019)What will happen to the world’s forests with ESG investment? ~Will deforestation stop if money flows change?~

ESG investment is about to take off in Japan. In 2015, the Pension Fund Investment Fund (GPIF) signed the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), which led to a public-private movement involving domestic institutional investors and fund management organizations. This ESG investment is beginning to seriously address climate change and human rights issues, including measures to prevent deforestation, which has a major impact on climate change. Furthermore, the global financial and capital markets are moving toward sustainable finance, which goes beyond ESG investment, and deforestation control measures are also being discussed there.
In this seminar, experts discussed trends in the global financial and capital markets, developments in the Japanese financial community, and what actions will be required of companies that procure forest resources and resources originating from forest areas in the future.
