The AA genome group within the rice genus includes cultivated rice (Asian and African rice) as well as six closely related wild rice species. Among the wild rice genomes, there are some lines with useful traits that cultivated rice lost during the cultivation process, and these lines will be important as breeding material for future breeding. The research in this division has focused on the fact that wild rice plants usually grow wild without fertilizer inputs, and among this group, we have found a wild rice line that has higher photosynthetic and dry matter production capacity than cultivated rice plants when nitrogen fertilizer is reduced. Currently, the physiological characteristics of this wild rice are being investigated in terms of photosynthesis and nitrogen absorption, and the chromosomal locations of wild rice genes useful in low-nitrogen cultivation are being investigated by QTL analysis.
